EPIC

EPIC - Engaging People in Communities – is a new development in CKI which focuses on expanding relationships between NUI Galway and the wider society, through supporting collaborative models of research, knowledge-sharing, knowledge exchange, strengthening links between teaching and research, and capacity-building within communities. There are many types of activities that can be included in this type of community-university engagement, including:
  • participatory and action research
  • advocacy
  • science outreach
  • service learning
  • arts and cultural activities
  • provision of public lectures
  • participation of university staff in public debate
  • various forms of knowledge exchange and knowledge transfer
  • membership of boards of community-based organisations

EPIC acts as a point of contact for community, voluntary and statutory organisations that would like to access these research, outreach and other collaborative opportunities with the university. It is also a key contact point for staff and students within the university interested in public engagement opportunities with the wider community.
