Community FAQ

1. I work for a community organisation. I’ve just seen your web site and want to recruit ALIVE Volunteers – what should I do?

Please contact us or post your volunteering opportunity here.

2. What can the ALIVE programme do for us?

We will provide you with volunteers from NUI Galway’s ALIVE programme that are either under graduate or post graduate students. We are delighted to partner with you in providing volunteer opportunities and anything we can do to support the partnership. Please contact us if you want to discuss how best to attract volunteers for your organisation.

3. What will the ALIVE programme expect from us as a partner organisation?

Firstly we would like your contact details so that we can get in touch with you. Also please send us key documents (wherever possible) like Annual Reviews. We also need to know who the main point of contact will be when we have found volunteers to work with you. We need the volunteer’s project description which we can distribute to all of our volunteers. The template for the role description is available to download from this website as well.

4. We’ve got a once-off event coming up that we really need help with. Can you provide volunteers?

Of course! We can provide you with volunteers for once-off events or for projects/work that require volunteers on a regular basis.

5. This sounds good in theory, but we don’t have any volunteer placements at present. Can we still register our interest with you?

Absolutely! Quite a few of the external organisations in our database don’t have any current projects, but they may come up from time to time. Once you have registered with us, it will be very quick and easy to set up a project with volunteers, should one arise. Please contact us to register.

6. Will we be expected to supervise and train the volunteer while they work with us?

All our volunteers need to have a ‘supervisor’ of sorts – someone they can go to if they need help, are unsure about something or maybe even become unhappy while working. With regards to training – if they have to use specific methods or a complex piece of equipment, then yes, it will be your responsibility to train them.
